Miksang Contemplative Photography
A Six Week Miksang Photography Course

What is Miksang?
Miksang is a Tibetan word meaning "Good Eye." Miksang Photography is a contemplative practice that combines simple photography with mindfulness, helping us to see and photograph the world exactly as it is, free from concept and judgement. It's less about technique and more about training the eye - and the mind - to notice what is already here.

My Miksang Journey
I live in London and work in both primary education and as a mindfulness teacher for children and adults.
Since a young age I have loved painting and playing with colour, an interest that continues through my painting practice, my work as a teacher, and workshops that encourage people to engage with their senses and experience the world in a playful and creative way.
I have also been fascinated by the nature of mind for many years through my meditation practice, so when I came across Miksang it felt like a natural coming together of many of my interests. Having worked with photography as my primary medium during my Fine Art studies, I was immediately drawn to a practice that united visual exploration with mindfulness and contemplation.
I began studying Miksang in 2024 with Michael Wood and Julie DuBose and was immediately struck by the simplicity and directness of the practice. For me, Miksang is an ongoing journey of discovery - an invitation to slow down and meet everyday experience with curiosity and openness. Through the practice, I continually discover the extraordinary within the ordinary: vivid colours, patterns, textures, and moments that can go unnoticed when we move too quickly through life.
Miksang has deepened my appreciation of the quiet beauty that surrounds us and the joy that can arise from simply seeing what is already here. I'm inspired to share this approach with others and support people in connecting more deeply with their experience.
I particularly enjoy witnessing the moments of discovery that arise when people slow down, become present, and notice what has been there all along.

About the 6 week Course: True to Life: Seeing Beyond Thought
Can you recognise the truth of your own experience of seeing, free of concepts and preferences?
Miksang Photography is based on authentic visual experience expressed exactly as seen - True to Life.
By learning to recognise perception beyond thought when it happens, we can begin to develop confidence in the truth that "there is such a thing as unconditional perception that does not come from self or other."
In this way, Seeing Beyond Thought is not a struggle. It becomes self-evident that it is possible to become fully available to see and express our perceptions with a mind of effortless equanimity.

-
As part of this six week workshop on Sundays, I will introduce you to a series of visual practices developed by Miksang founder Michael Wood called "Settling into Awareness". As we say in Miksang, "Seeing is a State of Mind." These practices are the way into direct seeing, and you will find them to be amazingly effective ways to develop visual awareness.
-
Each week will include daily visual exercises (about 20 minutes) and photography assignments. It is important that you have room in your schedule during the week for these, in order to get the most out of the course.
-
You will need to have a good working relationship with your camera or iPhone as I do not provide technical help.
-
Class meetings are 1.5 hours on Sundays, for 6 weeks.
-
Suggested reading before the course begins is Opening the Good Eye by Michael Wood, available here.
