The emotional demands of the classroom, constant decision-making, workload pressures and the responsibility of supporting young people’s mental health can leave even the most dedicated teachers feeling depleted. When you are continually giving, it’s easy to place your own well being at the bottom of the list.

HOW COULD MINDFULNESS BENEFIT ME?
​
We all have times when we experience stress, along with difficult physical sensations, feelings and moods. Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) can help us learn new ways of handling stress and all that comes with it.
MBSR can significantly change the way we relate to stress and difficulty, and enhance our capacity to cope on a daily basis. By developing more awareness, you can learn to deal more effectively with difficulties and take more pleasure in the good things in life.
The core skill that you will learn is 'mindfulness' - a way of paying attention, on purpose and non-judgementally, to what goes on in the present moment in your body, mind, and the world around you. Mindfulness can enable you to see things differently, undoing mental and physical knots and tensions. It can increase your sense of personal confidence and help you feel that you have more options, giving you greater strength to face challenges in your life.
This course is designed especially for teachers — to support your mental health, resilience and sense of professional sustainability.
Over 8 weeks, you will learn practical, evidence-based tools to:

•Develop an increased ability to handle stressful situations
•Improve focus and emotional regulation
•Cultivate self-compassion and sustainable energy
•Create healthier boundaries between work and home
•Have more energy and enthusiasm
•Develop a greater capacity for relaxation
•Develop more self-confidence
Participants are expected to do home practice in between in order to get the most out of the course and we provide audio tracks, handouts and weekly emails to support this.
MBSR isn’t about adding another task to your to-do list. It’s about creating space to breathe, reflect and restore — so you can continue teaching with clarity, steadiness and renewed purpose. Because supporting pupil well being starts with supporting the adults in the room.
